Here we are !! A little over a year after our first RoadTrip we are off and finally on vacation. The heavy heart as you know to leave my poilinettes but we will take full advantage of these 20 days before finding them. Direction San Francisco !
Like last year, I will post on the blog only photos taken with my Iphone or my Olympus (no revenge), the more worked photos taken with my reflex will be available after my return on the page facebook pro, I will share them with you here too.
You can also follow us on instagram where I post every day.
San Francisco and theft
I still hate these endless flights as much… yes 10 hours of flight plus a total of 5 hours in an airport, this is how to lose 1 whole day. Fortunately when you go to the United States it is common sense, between the flight and the jet lag we left Paris at 10am to land at noon, it's more of a good compromise, et tout ça m’aura permis de râler un peu dans mon article 🙂
Immigration control here is still pretty drastic, time to do everything so we arrived at the hotel to drop our luggage around 4 p.m..
Not far from here, is Union Square, THE mythical place of San Francisco, where we did a little tour. The city atmosphere is super nice, instead reminds us of The Grand Army Plaza in New York. And of course a little stop at the Apple Store (with an innovative concept) stood out.
Tiredness won us we did not last long and ate fruit in the room for dinner, tomorrow the alarm rings at 4.30 am…
Shooting and discovery of the surroundings
This alarm clock that you have such a hard time not to break… Why did he ring so early, some must have wondered. We had a planned shoot, in several places, including one that I loved, that I posted to you on social media, Cypress Tree Tunnel. 1 hour drive from San Francisco Bay, this natural corridor of trees is incredible, and the light at sunrise is crazy.
We then discovered the small town of Sausaliot, located just after the Golden Gate Bridge. It is rare that I find places on earth where I can come and put my stuff apart from New York, well this pretty little seaside town is one of them. It is a real joy to stroll through its streets facing the sea.
Then the shoot ended at Battery Spencer, in the heights of San Francisco with a breathtaking view of the famous bridge.
Tired of this morning we decide to go eat in one of our favorite American chain, Cheesecake Factory.
That day we wandered the streets a bit, then we went to see the sunset in Davenport, and finally Astrophotography at the Pigeon point lighthouse. My first tests in the field then you will have to be forgiving on the result.
Visit Alcatraz and Stanford
No great followers to do ALL the usual tourist places, it seemed inconceivable not to visit the legendary prison of Alcatraz. To do this, you will need to book your tickets well in advance, from what I read, at least 3 months before your departure.
With my reservation I managed to take the tickets for the first ferry of the day and I really recommend it. We were able to visit the prison quietly and take the photos we wanted. But after that it seems more complicated because every 25 minutes, a ferry arrives on the island to disembark other tourists.
This place is to do and remains a place steeped in history, mythical San Francisco, which impressed me a lot. However, I stay a bit on my end. We could not see many things, and in 2 hours maximum you will have done the tour. I wonder if it's worth taking the evening tour or the more complete backstage tour.
Leaving the prison, you will find a little further the Pier 39. A very nice place full of restaurants and shops of all kinds, the typically American vibe that we love. We ate there before hitting the road to Stanford University.
The campus is really impressive, dozens of buildings, a real city, but everything is very beautiful. We then took the road to go again at dusk to the same lighthouse as the day before.
Cypress Tree, Silicon Valley, Pier 39
We liked the Cypress Tree Tunnel so much that we got up again early to go back, unfortunately the weather was not as favorable and I could not take the photos I wanted, despite everything we had time to make some plans to the drone.
On the way back, a little stop at Muir Woods to see the Sequoia as well as Sausalito.
For lunch, like at least 1 times a day, we bought fruit at the supermarket and we nibbled in the car between 2 stops.
In the afternoon we went to Silicon Valley, where are the seats of Apple, Google, Facebook…
